Head coach Eli Drinkwitz made a splash on the recruiting trail by signing five-star defensive lineman Williams Nwaneri. His versatility and ability to play in multiple spots on the defensive line will make him an immediate contributor for the Tigers.Nwaneri recorded 25 tackles for loss and 23 sacks over his high school career. He is the highest-rated defensive line signee in program history and was a consensus five-star prospect. He was the No. 7 overall prospect in the class of 2024. Mike Matthews (Tennessee; WR) Tennessee enters this season with the potential to make its first run to the College Football Playoff. The hype surrounding the Volunteers is centered around five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava stepping into the QB1 role, but there is also plenty of buzz surrounding five-star freshman Mike Matthews.Matthews has already made his mark in spring practices and could find a solid role in the Volunteers offense next season. The Bulldogs have done an excellent job developing talent in the secondary, which makes Ellis Robinson IV the perfect candidate for an instant-impact freshman. Robinson was a consensus five-star prospect and No. 1 cornerback in the class of 2024. He was a semifinalist for the Maxwell Football Club Defensive Player of the Year and started 19 games at cornerback over the past two seasons. He has the size that head coach Kirby Smart loves at cornerback, which should earn him plenty of playing time for the Bulldogs this season. Zay Mincey (Alabama; CB) Alabama signed one of the most impressive defensive back classes in the nation. Many people have focused on five-star cornerback Jaylen Mbakwe but do not overlook five-star Zay Mincey for the Crimson Tide. He has elite size at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds and has the potential to earn significant playing time as a true freshman. Mincey signed with Alabama as the No. 3 cornerback in the class of 2024. Over the past three seasons, he has recorded 29 pass breakups and six interceptions.
